Elevation and Temperature Modeling Issue

We have recently been examining discrepancies between modeled and observed temperatures over high‑elevation terrain. During this assessment, we identified a substantial underestimation of terrain height in the model—on the order of approximately 1400 m—while some surrounding areas are represented with higher elevations than expected. This inconsistency in the underlying orography appears to contribute to the temperature bias we are observing.

Given this mismatch, we would appreciate guidance on the best approach to improve the predicted variables for complex, high‑altitude regions.

Our analysis also highlights clear differences between the modeled grid altitudes in different model configurations, as well as the resulting gap between observed and simulated temperatures.

A post-processing tool that misinterprets geocentric and geographic latitudes will notice a shift of up to 22 km

For Oman, this latitudal shift should be in the order of 15 km.
